In 2009, a chance conversation with my sister resulted in me quitting my job in England to go sailing around the Mediterranean. During those blissful six weeks, I met and fell in love with a handsome Texan. Six months after we met, I made my first trip to Texas where I fell in love again, this time with the state. I loved the wide-open spaces, the sun that shone even in the middle of winter, and the steak – oh, the steak. My husband is a patriotic Texan and taught me a great deal about the history and culture of this part of the United States. When he asked me to marry him, my answer was swift. My move to the US was a little less swift. Despite not even having a parking ticket to blacken my past, it still took 15 months from the day we were married to the day that I could finally move to Texas. Since then, though, I have had some wonderful adventures, amusing experiences and a lot more steak. In this blog I want to share some of those moments with you. To the Texans among you, I hope you will be able to identify with some of the things I write about. For those who have never experienced Texas first hand, I hope my blog will bring you a little closer to this enormous place, and maybe will dispel a few myths (or more likely confirm some of those cliches!).
